Full House Brings New Life to Elukhanyeni Preschool

Le Roi Van Niekerk ·

This year, during our Birthday Month in August, we ran our 12th Room Makeover competition. Instead of doing a traditional room makeover, we decided to do something bigger. We chose a full community makeover project. Customers could enter by spending R999, and the winning customer would nominate a charity or community project for us to uplift.

Our winner was Virginia Butler from Robertson. When we met her to celebrate, she nominated two options: Elukhanyeni Pre-school and the Joseph Matwa Old Age Home. After visiting both, we decided to focus the main makeover on Elukhanyeni Pre-school.

Our team at Head Office, our Robertson branch, and several of our suppliers joined forces to give the preschool a fresh start. The school is home to 35 energetic children. Their spirit is strong, but their classrooms and facilities needed real care. We made it our mission to help fix that.

Makeover day started early as trucks rolled in with new furniture and equipment. We repainted all the rooms, refreshed the reading room, and upgraded the kitchen. The school now has a new gas stove, large Urn, a microwave, and solid counters to replace the damaged ones that had become unsafe.

Inside the classrooms, the children now have new carpets, sturdy shelves for books and stationery, and wall strips to keep their backpacks neatly in place. The reading room received new carpets and a cork wall where teachers can display artwork and messages. One of the biggest highlights was gifting the school a 55-inch TV with WIFI, opening the door to educational content that teachers can stream during lessons.

We also turned our attention to the sick room. The bedding, mattress, and carpets were replaced to create a clean, warm space for children who need to rest.

Of course, we wanted the day to be fun too. We arranged a jumping castle, face painting, and a boerewors braai. The smiles told the whole story. Each child went home with a personal gift pack with new school shoes, a soccer ball, a Frisbee, and a kite.

One of the standout improvements is the large shade-net canopy we installed in front of the classrooms. It gives the children shade from the sun and creates a comfortable outdoor space where they can play, learn, and gather.

Although our main focus was the preschool, we also visited the Joseph Matwa Old Age Home. Our renovation budget was set aside for the preschool, but we were still able to assist by donating a stainless-steel kitchen table to replace their non-compliant wooden one. We also provided a large hot-water urn and three industrial cooking pots to support their daily food preparation.

For us at Full House, projects like this reflect who we are. We have been serving communities across the Western Cape for 27 years, and improving the lives of our customers has always been at the heart of our work. Credit has played a big role in that. When money is tight or an emergency hits, our credit offering helps families get the furniture and appliances they need without delay. Our commitment goes further than sales. Our School Feeding Scheme supplies porridge to 27 preschools every day, and this year we proudly passed the one million meal mark. When we say we care, we mean it, and we put in the work to prove it.

We want to thank our suppliers, staff, and supporters for helping make the Elukhanyeni Preschool and Joseph Matwa Old Age Home project a success. We also want to thank every customer who supported us throughout 2025. This is what community looks like, and we are proud to play our part.

We wish all our families a blessed festive season and a safe start to the new year. Thank you for allowing us to remain part of your homes and your communities.

“We can make it yours”
